Team Building Rarely Works When You Do This

(and the #1 reason an expert-led wellness program may be your ace in the hole)

What is that “something special” happening at certain companies that leaves their employees feeling like something bigger than themselves is at work?

What makes their staff embody the overall mission of the company as if it were a part of who they each are as individuals?

The most productive companies seem to operate with an “unseen power” that’s running the show.

One of the most obvious representations of this power is the overall climate of their employees’ sense of TEAM—it’s always on the conversation table. We understand that without that “glue” that holds people together, united by a mission, we really have nothing but a bunch of individuals just coming to work to do “their jobs.”

Sadly, most organizations’ team building efforts are short lived and don’t produce the results they’re looking for. And here’s the #1 reason (I think) for this, and why an expertly run wellness program can help you solve this intrinsic problem:

How To Get Your Company Beyond Fit and Healthy

(and why they won’t follow through if you don’t do this)

I don’t think statistics are needed to prove that people who live active, healthy lifestyles are just flat out, well, happier. And happier people are like sweet dreams for a company’s top brass. Why?

Because you can almost always correlate a company’s level of productivity and profitability to the level of happiness of its employees.

Nowadays, it’s common sense that getting your company’s heart and soul—your people—into better shape physically, mentally and emotionally through a strategic wellness program is the way to improved employee retention, less sick days, lower insurance costs, greater employee camaraderie and increased productivity, to name just a few benefits.

But like most things, it’s not always as easy as it sounds.

Why Your Wellness Program’s Nutrition Plan Shouldn’t Dig A Hole In Your Employee’s Brain

(and 3 other key ingredients to keep the plan from falling flat)

Working professionals are busier than ever these days.

If only this article could read itself and immediately transmit the message into our brains beyond time and effort so we could get right back to being busy. Wouldn’t that be great?

And wouldn’t it be great if the most important meal of the day, breakfast, could magically materialize on our kitchen tables so we could still enjoy waking up at the very last minute while also getting in a nutritious meal?

Good Ergonomics in the Workplace

Don’t Just Sit There… Evolve!

Nick McElhiney is an expert on ergonomics.

He told me about the importance of good ergonomics in the workplace. Now this is a topic that I can completely relate to, as in my line of work, proper form (including proper body alignment) is essential for good output.

And, the same goes for your work environment. With the increasing number of hours people spend these days in front of their computer, it makes total sense why good ergonomics can make all the difference in how happy and productive each day can be.

During challenging economic times, businesses typically start looking at how to reduce their operational costs. Nick says, “One smart way that has a proven track record, but is mostly overlooked, is the prevention and reduction of Repetitive Motion Illness (RMI) or Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTD).

When proper ergonomics are not offered to company employees, businesses can expect to experience the following results. read more »

Corporate Wellness Ain’t Cutting It

Go beyond gym memberships and health screenings to improve productivity

corporate-wellness-employee-fitness

If you could snap your fingers and replace your existing work force with world-class athletes, would you do it?

Have the determined Lance Armstrong head up your sales force, the workhorse Michael Phelps run your IT department or the powerhouse Serena Williams perform operations?

Okay, so that’s obviously not realistic. But imagine the difference if, at the very least, all of your employees were healthy and fit? How much of an increase would you see in job performance?

One of the Most Powerful Ways to Achieve Greater Company Success

(and how to get your employees addicted to it)

According to Merriam-Webster, one definition of success is a “favorable or desired outcome.” Another is “the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.”

Truth is, “success” is personal and is however we define it in any given context. And achieving greater success in your organization must be defined in your own terms.

Once it’s defined, the question then becomes:

How can you help your employees become addicted to it?

When you look at your team, and then look at each person individually, you begin to see that each of them is different. Some are very determined and driven for success. Others secretly shy away from it. Some even condemn the folks that are more successful than they are (the “crabs in a bucket” theory).

It then becomes easier to see where your healthier, happier employees are on the success continuum.

Stress: Making Life Hard Since Adam Met Eve

(and costing your company more than just dollars)

The increasing demands to become bigger, better, faster, and more competitive in the marketplace is definitely making life more stressful.

We’ve been saying statements like that for decades.

And in these economic times, employees are being forced to do all of this with less and less, further elevating their stress levels.

And here’s something quite interesting:

The thoughts you attach to situations impact your body’s physiology in about 1/18th of a second.

Of course some stress is good. Apply a little pressure and people become more productive.

But apply too much pressure and things start to deteriorate.

And that’s why we’ve been seeing more stress related problems in the workplace over the last ten years compared to the previous fifty.

So how much do you think work related stress is costing your company?  What’s the “air” of overall happiness like at the workplace? read more »
